Province improves community investment grant programs

Approximately $6 million of the Community Initiatives Program (CIP) grant funding has been set aside for small, community-based, human services organizations and international development programs. Criteria for the CIP and the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) are also being adjusted to reduce duplication with other programs.


Report on Canada’s High Performance Coaches Reveals Successes, Gaps

The working conditions for Canada's high performance coaches are less than ideal given the significant time commitment, the heavy workload required, and the salaries received by coaches of the country's top athletes. These challenges are a central portion of the findings of a study on the Status of Coaches in Canada released by the Coaching Association of Canada.


Canada's Economic Action Plan initiative improves local recreational facilities

Local hockey rinks, swimming pools, and other community sites throughout the West will be eligible to receive funding for upgrades, renovations, and fix-ups thanks to the new Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program (RInC) in Canada's Economic Action Plan. Funding for the RInC program is now available through Western Economic Diversification Canada.


Lottery Fund Program Grants

The Alberta sport community must be aware of potential changes to Alberta Lottery Fund Programs through domino effect which is perhaps the most important funding issue impacting sport across Alberta since the review of gaming eligibility in 2002 in which the initial new policy stated that sport would not be eligible except in special circumstances. For more information, click here.
